Letter to Students, Parents and Guardians re: Distance Learning

Dear Students, Parents and Guardians,

We are about to embark on an unprecedented journey in education during these unsettling times. We here at Bonny Eagle High School are hoping to provide our best possible services over the duration of this closure. To do so we are embarking on remote distance learning for all students in all of their assigned classes. Our partners at Westbrook Regional Vocational Center and Portland Arts and Technology are doing the same for students in their programs.

On Thursday, March 18th, we will roll out online learning. Teachers have been working diligently to set up Google Classrooms for all of their classes and will begin adding students Wednesday. Beginning on Thursday morning, all students should check their email and accept any and all invites to Google Classroom. Then, they should go to classroom.google.com where they should find a Google Classroom for all of their classes. Each day, students will work on three classes. Please see the schedule below. During each scheduled block, students’ assigned teachers will be available to help students. Students will find their assignments and expectations on Google Classroom. They may be required to watch assigned videos, participate in Google Meet (a virtual meeting) with their teachers, and complete other assignments.  Students should expect to dedicate approximately 3 hours per class per week. Teachers will be available online from 9:00 - 2:00 Mon - Fri to support, however are dedicated to the classes below during designated times. Please do not hesitate to communicate with them early and often.

All students should check their class schedule on Synergy. At this point, students’ schedules should be correct. If a student is scheduled for a class that they should not be taking because they failed the prerequisite class in Trimester 2, they should email their counselor. No other class changes will be made in Trimester 3, all elective changes, teacher adjustments or period adjustments are not available.

Student Illness
If your student is ill, families are requested to contact our school nurse at 648-7814 and leave a message detailing Student Name and symptoms. From there our school nurse will communicate with teachers for students who are unable to complete work due to illness. She will not share the details of their symptoms or medical status beyond unable to complete work at this time.

Our offices are open for essential pick-ups of medications and technology Wednesday from 9-12, however are closed to the public after that and until further notice. The administration and their staff are available via e-mail and are having their phones forwarded to their email. You may have to leave a message but we will do our best to get back to you as soon as we can. Please note that over the next few weeks many calls from school employees may come as blocked numbers as we adjust to calling from personal devices.

In conclusion please remember that students are expected to login to daily to their email and the assigned Google Classrooms. There is still an expectation for engagement by students in order to gain credit for courses in Trimester 3 and for us to be able to hit the ground running when we return. Though the daily expectations may be lighter, the overall need to participate is still very present. Please have the utmost patience with us as we embark on this new journey with you, and know that we are dedicated to flexibility, understanding and most of all student success.  Most importantly, thank you for being the amazing community you are and we know we can work through these trying times together because we are BE Strong.

Sincerely,

BEHS Admin Team

Dear Juniors, parents and guardians,

Recently the decision was made to the cancel in-person classes and remove residing students from campus at multiple area Universities. Due to this we are cancelling our planned Bus Trips to visit area post-secondary institutions this spring. Our hope is to find a mechanism for providing this opportunity to students at some point in the future before they take their next steps.

Thank you for your support as we continue to put the safety and wellness of students and community first.
