 National Constitution week -

Friday, September 22 – Our last person to profile is one of the most respected men in

the history of our country. George Washington was the Commander in Chief of the

Continental Army during the Revolutionary War. He had hoped to retire after the war

but was convinced by James Madison to attend the Constitutional Convention. In one of

the first orders of business, Mr. Washington was unanimously chosen to be the chairman

of the convention and presided over it from May to September 1787. After the

constitution was ratified, Mr. Washington was chosen unanimously to serve as the first

president of the United States of America and did so for two terms before stepping down.
